The Texas Hill Country and Highland Lakes
The Texas Hill Country is a DESTINATION.
And the Highland Lakes area starts your journey through this beautiful region of Texas. Located less than a one hour drive northwest of Austin, the Highland Lakes area is denoted by a chain of seven lakes. The lakes, starting in Austin, go northwest for over 85 miles. The top lake, Lake Buchanan, is a large reservoir lake constructed in the 1930’s. From there, the Colorado River carries into Inks Lake, then into Lake LBJ, where the Colorado River and the Llano River merge to form this lake. The next damn in the system is Wirtz Dam, separating Lake LBJ and Lake Marble Falls. From Lake Marble Falls, the Colorado River winds its way to Lake Travis, where the Colorado River and the Pedernales River merge to form this large reservoir lake. From Lake Travis, the Colorado River flows into Lake Austin, and then into Town Lake, now known as Lady Bird Lake in downtown Austin.
The Marble Falls, Horseshoe Bay, and the Kingsland areas are true gems within the Highland Lakes, all located around Lake LBJ. The Highland Lakes is complemented by world-renowned golf courses, boating, skiing, wakeboarding, and fishing on a variety of lakes, award-winning wineries, charming downtown boutique shopping, and highlighted by the gorgeous Texas wildflowers. The inviting Texas atmosphere of this region lays way to long Sunday drives, weekend festivals, Saturday night dancing, and wide open, star gazing skies.
Welcome to our little piece of heaven on earth. The Texas Hill Country and Highland Lakes is the place to be!
